Hi! I am the new Spanish teacher, Marta Monaco. I am so excited to be teaching kindergarten and second grade this year. Prior to MKA, I was teaching at the International School of Brooklyn and I am originally from Barcelona. I look forward to telling you more about myself during our parents night. It was great getting to know the students even more this week. They enjoyed learning Spanish through videos which include dancing and singing, in order to warm up and feel confident to speak the language. The kindergarten class has learned and enjoyed family vocabulary, local songs and coloring in the family book. In the second grade class, they are learning classroom routines where every week a few secretarios (assistants) will keep us informed of the date, weather and materials in Spanish. Our Spanish classroom has a reading corner decorated with fun pillows for them to relax while they read their favorite books and play with the most popular toys, as you can see in the picture. Our current Machu Picchu wall showcases the ancient Peruvian Inca civilization so they are aware of other cultures. This is also where they can see who is secretarios of the week! I try to make the class as engaging as possible, where the students learn not only how to speak the Spanish language, but also be introduced to many of the cultures who speak Spanish. |
